Your Challenge

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) itself is home to one of the country’s best known government support programs for small and medium-sized innovative companies – the Industrial Research Assistance Program, commonly known as IRAP.  In 2018, the Government of Canada designated IRAP as one of four flagship programs that will consolidate program initiatives and focus on providing customized support that Canadian businesses need to succeed and grow.
 

The uniqueness of IRAP has been the method in which NRC provides services to companies through a network of field staff known as Industrial Technology Advisors.  These people deliver both advice to our clients to further their business growth, and in some situations, make the case for IRAP to fund their client’s innovative projects.   Do you think you have what it would take to be part of this dynamic and exciting team? We are looking for highly qualified Industrial Technology Advisors to support our multiple technical sectors and regional offices across the country. Education

Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering in a discipline related to the position from a recognized university. 
 

A bachelor's degree in another field with significant work experience relevant to the position will be considered.
 

Preference may be given to candidates with a complementary degree or diploma in business, management, administration, finance or marketing.

Experience

*Recent industrial business experience as an entrepreneur or senior manager – preferably in SMEs.
 

**Extensive experience in developing and commercializing innovative products or services within the private sector with demonstrable outcomes in innovation or technology domains such as:

- Software

Technical Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of NRC-IRAP's mandate, mission and business model. 
     
  • Solid knowledge of SME business management, marketing of technology and productivity increase. 
     
  • Solid knowledge of developing, adopting and adapting technologies. 
     
  • Solid knowledge of project management principles and practices.
     
  • Advanced knowledge of technology, innovation and commercialization issues and trends within the sector/or region relation to the position.

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Salary Range

 

This position is classified as a Research Council Officer (RCO), a group that is unique to the NRC. The RCO group uses a person-based classification system instead of the more common duties-based classification system. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, skill, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $52,854 to $149,416 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions. 

 

In addition, the incumbent may receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
 

Depending on experience, our Industrial Technology Advisors often are placed at a senior range between $116,851-$137,318.
