The BDO provides strategic market guidance, sales & marketing, intellectual property management, complex agreement negotiation, licensing, stakeholder engagement expertise and new business approaches that will influence business objectives and strategic plans, increasing and strengthening the NRC’s value proposition and its relationships with clients.
The BDO supports the business and partnership objectives of the NRC by developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies aligned towards NRC’s program(s) outcomes. The BDO engages with targeted clients in direct meetings, workshops and industry conferences. The BDO then analyzes client requirements and aligns client needs with NRC capabilities and NRC’s program objectives. The BDO leads due diligence efforts and structures/negotiates strategic research agreements, intellectual property licenses, and technical service agreements that maximize impact to the Canadian economy.
The BDO is expected to achieve targeted growth objectives, including increasing market knowledge of NRC within specific sector(s), developing opportunities for NRC to provide technical or research services to clients, and establishing collaborative relationships or projects with key stakeholders.

Education
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering, Science, Business or Economics.
Master’s of Business Administration would be an asset.

Experience
- Significant and recent experience in developing partnerships in applied research in advanced manufacturing.
- Significant and recent experience in creating and developing new advanced technology opportunities.
- Significant and recent experience in negotiating complex agreements and reviewing contracts.
- Significant and recent experience in leveraging intellectual property to address industry challenges.
- Significant experience in communicating both verbally and in writing technology business opportunities to potential and existing clients.
- Experience supporting and leading business-related activities within an industrial organization.

- Knowledge of the following technologies considered an asset: additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, digitalization and Industry 4.0, metals and metal processing, polymers and composites, robotics, sensor systems.
- Knowledge of the application of the above technologies in the following industries would be considered an asset: vehicle manufacturing, aerospace, and packaging.
- Ability to use well developed influencing strategies to achieve outcomes.
- Proven record of success in analyzing market dynamics and translating this into business opportunities with key prospects and accounts.
- Demonstrated ability to meet revenue objectives, outreach or marketing targets through opportunities which are aligned with strategic goals and that have had significant impact for the organization.
- Knowledge of the Canadian and Manitoba innovation landscapes, including leading players (companies, academic institutions, granting agencies) would be an asset.

Compensation
The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the RCO-3 to RCO-4 level, which is an well established-career level position with a salary range of $105,785 to $138,927.
NOTE: Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for this position).
In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
