We will be hiring a Computer Support Specialist (CS-2) to resolve second level technical issues and help us manage the configuration and deployment of all of our workstations. The Computer Support Specialist would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

 

The incumbent will work as a member of the Front Line Support Team within the NRC-Client Service Centre (NRC-CSC), providing clients with IT support services for distributed computers, servers and networks within the various Research Centres/Branches/IRAP of NRC.  He/she will source, implement, and troubleshoot the hardware and software services provided to the clients.

 

In addition, he/she will assist IT team members to improve the general operating efficiency; create, edit and maintain documentation; maintain networked hardware, software; provide IT support to computer, server and network users; evaluate computers, desktop and network software and management tools. Finally, he/she will liaise with agencies to acquire technical information on new hardware and software.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

College diploma in Computer Science or related field.

 

Bachelor degree in Computer Science from a recognized University considered an asset.

 

Equivalency consideration may be given to candidates with significant experience and a High School diploma.

Experience

  1. Experience providing desktop and technical support to users (including problem analysis and resolution) in a Windows based environment including support of MS Office products, TCP/IP etc.
  2. Experience installing and supporting Linux & Mac OS would be considered an asset for the CS-2
  3. Significant* experience installing, configuring and maintaining the desktop hardware, software and peripherals.
  4. Experience in providing remote support.
  5. Basic experience in networking concepts TCP/IP Protocol.
  6. Significant* experience of MS Office suite.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies (Mandatory)

  1. Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques for networks, printers, desktops and laptops. (knowledge of single board computers would be considered an asset)
  2. Strong knowledge of Microsoft, Linux and Mac Operating systems.   
  3. Ability to research and analyze complex IT issues as well as provide sound advice and expertise to clients, other team members, and management.
  4. Ability to work concurrently on various projects, and be able to prioritize work accordingly.
  5. Ability to work independently as well as in a group setting.
  6. Good understanding of ticket management, such as prioritizing, updating, reviewing request, and ensuring SLAs are meet. (Knowledge of ITIL core processes would be considered an asset.)
  7. Basic knowledge of TCP/IP protocol, switches, and network cabling. (Knowledge of Fibre Optic network cabling would be considered an asset)

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Compensation

From $74,552 to $93,612 per annum. 

 

An incumbent occupying a position within the CS Group is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $176 per month.

 

Employees at Penticton PEN01 also get a monthly commuters allowance due to the remoteness of the site and the lack of public transportation.
