The NRC Advantage

The National Research Council of Canada represents a powerful partnering option for anyone looking to push the boundaries of science and industry. In fact, as the Government of Canada's largest research organization supporting industrial innovation, the advancement of knowledge and technology development, we have become catalysts for innovation. For over a hundred years, the impact of our work with industry leaders and other government bodies has shaped Canada’s future. We partner with some of the most creative and solutions-driven minds in the world.

And now, we want to partner with you. Be part of our collective force to come up with potentially disruptive solutions to Canada’s current and future technology challenges. Let your expertise and inspirations make an impact by joining the NRC.

Your Challenge

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada's largest research and technology organization.

The national model construction codes—collectively referred to as “Codes Canada”—are developed through a collaborative process involving the best expertise from across Canada and around the world to provide effective building and safety regulations that are harmonized across Canada.

These highly legalistic and technically complex documents are accessed by thousands of practitioners in the construction industry, so the standards of quality are very high.

We are looking for a conscientious, solutions-oriented Technical Translator-Editor who strives for excellence to support our Construction Research Centre. The Technical Translator-Editor would be someone who shares our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration.

The Technical Translator-Editor produces high-quality technical translations from English into French of printed and electronic documents published by Codes Canada, the National Master Specification (NMS), and the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC).  These include proposed change forms, intent statements, user’s guides, complementary code documents (agendas and correspondence), promotional materials, listings, evaluation reports and texts for Codes Canada and CCMC Websites.  The incumbent also edits contract translations, and performs other duties as necessary.

The incumbent works on site with a team of editors, translators and IT specialists.

NRC’s main campus on Montreal Road offers free parking and easy access for runners, walkers and in-line skaters to break away during the day and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Most buildings have shower and locker facilities, in addition to an on-campus Fitness Centre. There are also areas for soccer, volleyball and even beach volleyball during the summer! There are ample picnic areas and easy access to a shopping centre, grocery store and pharmacy, as well as numerous restaurants.
