We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Technical Support Supervisor to support our Construction Research Centre. The incumbent would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
 

Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Information System Unit, Production and Marketing, Codes Canada, this position of Technical Support Supervisor is a hands on position working with and providing leadership to project teams engaged in the design, development, implementation, integration, maintenance and support of IT applications (including web-based) which support the legal and technical documents published by Codes Canada; this includes National Master Specification (NMS), and Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC).
 

The incumbent manages a small team of up to three positions who are responsible for the Development, administration and maintenance of the Content Management System (CMS) Application, technical support for electronic publications, Web sites / applications and databases.

This position would suit someone who is agile, enjoys variety, and someone who is motivated by the opportunity to remain practically involved in helping integrate numerous systems and help customise applications and databases while providing leadership to ensure that management, operations and the delivery of its services.

NRC’s main campus on Montreal Road offers free parking and easy access for runners, walkers and in-line skaters to break away during the day and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Most buildings have shower and locker facilities, in addition to an on-campus Fitness Centre. There are also areas for soccer, volleyball and even beach volleyball during the summer! There are ample picnic areas and easy access to a shopping centre, grocery store and pharmacy, as well as numerous restaurants.

Screening Criteria


Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet the education and experience factors listed on the poster. It is recommended that candidates use the education/experience criteria as a header and then write one or two paragraphs demonstrating how they meet them by providing concrete examples.

Education


Bachelor of Computer Science or Software Engineering.


Candidates who have acquired computer skills and knowledge through completion of another university or college program, and who have significant relevant experience in Perl, XSLT, Oracle Apex programming, Web applications development and current information technologies may also be considered.

Experience

 

  • Significant recent experience in developing Web sites and Web applications with Oracle Apex, PHP,  Javascript, JQuery, HTML, CSS. 
     
  • Significant experience working with database applications, SQL (Oracle preferred) and XML storage in Oracle databases.
     
  • Experience in structured programming techniques, system testing techniques and debugging techniques.
     
  • Experience in the design, development, documentation and implementation of content management systems, preferably TeamSite.
     
  • Experience programming Perl, XSLT and UNIX scripts.
     
  • Experience in the development and implementation of XML, HTML and associated tools.
     
  • Experience in data conversion to other formats, and the development and implementation of systems for document delivery.
     
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in Oracle SQL, and who are familiar with the National Research Council and/or Treasury Board policies on Web Standards for the Government of Canada, including WET Toolkit.
     
  • Experience in an electronic publishing would be an asset.

Technical Competencies

 

  • Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript, PHP and JQuery
     
  • Advanced knowledge of Oracle Apex and Oracle PL/SQL.
     
  • Solid knowledge of XML, XSLT and content management systems preferably Teamsite.
     
  • Knowledge of programming Perl and UNIX scripts.
     
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, knowledge of structured programming concepts and knowledge of debugging techniques.
     
  • Knowledge of WCAG and the Web Experience Toolkit would be considered an asset.
     
  • Knowledge of construction specifications and related requirements, and contemporary construction techniques would be considered an asset.

Relocation


Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Salary Range


From $86,921 to $109,355 per annum. 
 

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
 

An incumbent occupying a position within the CS Group is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $212 per month.
