We are looking for a Technical Officer, Digital Construction to support our Construction Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
The successful candidate will play an important role within our Intelligent Building Operations Unit. Responsibilities will include data preparation, analysis, and reporting related to building energy use and other aspects of building performance. Duties will also include interpretation and visualization of results and input to, or preparation of, technical reports or scientific publications. The Technical Officer may also provide support for data collection in a lab/field environment and liaising with clients and stakeholders.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
A university degree in one of the following fields:
• Mechanical engineering
• Electrical engineering
• Building science
• Engineering physics
• Applied mathematics and/or statistics
• Data science
• Environmental engineering
• Civil engineering
An equivalent combination of a college diploma in a related field along with relevant experience may be considered.

Experience
- Experience* organizing, analysing, interpreting, and documenting large data sets in the context of building heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) and energy performance .
- Experience preparing material (text, graphs, tables, etc.) for inclusion in reports.
- Experience working in a project focused environment with well defined objectives, commitments, and schedules.
- Experience in the efficient organization of one’s own time, and in guiding the tasks of more junior staff/students/peers.
* At least 2 years of continuing experience.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
Technical Competencies
- Knowledge of building HVAC systems and their operations, and the sensors used in such systems.
- Knowledge of the efficient organization, analysis and visualization of large data sets. Including programming in Python, Matlab, and/or R, database tools, and some of Excel’s advanced features. Preference may be given to knowledge of Python.
- Ability to use MS Office Suite (or other similar software tools), particularly for documentation of procedures, and for reporting of test results.
- Experience using application programming interfaces (APIs) for data retrieval may be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of SQL databases and web development tools such as HTML and Javascript may be considered an asset.

Compensation
From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
