We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Technologist to support our Aerospace Research Centre. The Senior Mechanical Technologist would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.


You will be part of an Operations and Mechanical Support team serving the Gas Turbine Lab’s (GTL) Engine Performance & Icing Team. Responsibilities will include providing technical support services in the design, planning, conduct and analysis of complex experiments and/or tests, and in the operation of research facilities.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:


Diploma from a post-secondary in Mechanical Engineering Technologist program or related field.

  • Significant experience in using 3D CAD packages, such as SolidWorks, sufficient to conduct a complete design process from specifications through to engineering drawings and operational procedures;
  • Significant experience with mechanical fabrication to ensure that designs are practical and cost effective to produce components; and
  • Significant experience with design, commissioning, and troubleshooting mechanical systems (e.g. hydraulics, pneumatics, piping, instrumentation and/or closed loop control systems).

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of gas turbine engine, component test setups and equipment;
  • Solid knowledge in CAD solid modelling and generation of detailed drawings;
  • Advanced knowledge of fabrication methods (cutting, machining, welding, etc.) and assembly of multi-component systems; and
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical system design, installation, and troubleshooting.

Salary Range

From $72,654 to $93,437 per annum. 


  • A pre-qualified list may be established for similar positions for a one year period.
  • This position is being advertised internally and externally simultaneously, however first consideration will be given to internal NRC applicants.
  • A flexible schedule and overtime may be required.
  • Heavy lifting on an occasional basis.
  • Outdoor work is required in summer and winter. Test cell installations and operations are frequently done under various conditions of temperature and humidity that may exceed ambient extremes. The incumbent is expected to work in such environments in a safe manner.
