The Role

We are looking for a Semiconductor Electron-Beam (E-Beam) Lithography Engineer to support our Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre (CPFC) Research Centre. The incumbent would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
 

The CPFC offers our clients and partners access to cutting-edge photonics fabrication services that provide simulation, design, fabrication, testing, characterization, and prototyping services to help move innovative photonic and electronic devices to market. It plays a key role in NRC’s Advanced Photonic Components and Gallium Nitride Electronics Programs.
 

The primary responsibility of the E-Beam lithography engineer will be to develop and sustain a variety of III-V processes to fabricate a wide range of devices on InP, GaAs, Si, or other substrates to meet customer requirements. The incumbent will work on E-beam lithography process development and sustaining.
 

The key activities of this position are:
 

  • Ensure that Electron-Beam Lithography goals are met and effectively contribute to overall CPFC goals.
  • Comprehensive record keeping and the provision of detailed reports to clients, and publications where appropriate.
  • Establish validation and verification criteria for new processes and products to address new client/project needs and Identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Create and revise documentation detailing production processes.
  • Assistance in maintenance of the associated electron beam lithography computer software (design layout and proximity correction) and metrology equipment.
  • Take a leadership role in the training and support of more junior technical staff across multiple   shifts
  • Provide expert advise and guidance to researchers looking to incorporate Electron-Beam lithography into the device designs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Physical, Chemical, Materials Sciences or equivalent Engineering disciplines.
 

A PhD in one of these disciplines will be considered an asset.

Experience

  • Extensive* experience in an industrial R&D or semiconductor fabrication environment.
  • Significant** and recent*** experience in semiconductor Electron-Beam Lithography (EBL) and processes including process optimization, Critical Dimensions (CD) control, and E-beam resist process optimization.
  • Significant** experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Experience with Raith EBL system would be considered an asset.


* Extensive experience is defined as a minimum of seven (7) years of experience.
** Significant experience is defined as two (2) to five (5) years of experience.
*** Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last five (5) years.

Technical Competencies

  1. Solid knowledge of Electron-Beam Lithography characterization techniques and processes.
  2. Advanced knowledge of resist chemistries and processing.
  3. Solid knowledge in design of experiments (DoE), process control checks, trend charts, Work-in-Progress (WIP) tracking and paperless Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  4. Solid knowledge of semiconductor microfabrication including process improvement and optimization to enhance robustness and reliability.
  5. Solid knowledge of safe practices working with chemicals, compressed gases, liquid nitrogen, and electrical, mechanical, and vacuum systems.

Compensation

The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the RCO-2 level with a salary range of $82,338 to $114,354.
 

Note: Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level.  As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for this position).
