The role
We are looking for a Research Officer to support our Clean Energy Innovation Research Centre. The Research Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
You will be part of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) / Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) and Data Analytics team. The primary role of this position is to support on the development of data analytics tools based on artificial intelligence and machine learning. The ideal candidate will support identifying technology gaps and benchmark development technologies.

Education
PhD in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience
- Significant experience in clean energy technologies field such as battery materials and critical minerals, carbon dioxide capture or hydrogen and its derivatives.
- Significant experience in data analytics including data collection and analysis, AI and machine learning tools. development, and ensuring data quality.
- Strong experience in the full spectrum of life cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis research activities including identification of research requirements, proposal writing, project management, data production and analysis, and reporting through written documentation, presentations and publishing.
- Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams.

Technical competencies
- Advanced knowledge on data analytics, including data management and databases, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
- Strong programming and computational skills such as Python.
- Advanced knowledge of life cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis tools such as openLCA and Brightaway LCA software.
- Knowledge of process engineering and materials science.
- Proficiency in process simulation software ASPEN PLUS/Hysys.
- Strong knowledge of battery materials and critical minerals, carbon dioxide capture or hydrogen and its derivatives.

Compensation
The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the JRO to AsRO level, which is an early-career position with a salary range of $64,739 to $116,641.
NOTE: Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for this position).
