We are looking for a Research Officer (RO) with a strong expertise in T cell Immunology to support our Immunobiology Department in the Human Health Therapeutics (HHT) Research Center. The candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

 

The Human Health Therapeutics Research Center provides innovative technologies and expertise to Canadian industry, academia and government through R&D services and collaborations, enabling them to develop new treatments to prevent or treat diseases cost effectively. As an R&D partner of choice, NRC HHT de-risks critical steps in the development of vaccines, biotherapeutics, and delivery of large molecules to emerging infections, cancers and chronic diseases. NRC HHT adds value to partners' products by overcoming challenges in target selection, candidate design, lead optimization, functional and biophysical characterization, immunogenicity and preclinical efficacy evaluation, and bioprocessing.

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

 

PhD in Immunology, Molecular Immunology or relevant area.

Experience

 

  • Significant research experience in studying T-cell signalling pathways related to effector function, cell survival, maturation, differentiation, persistence, exhaustion, and immune tolerance.
  • Significant experience with molecular biology and immunological assays, including experience with cell culture, cell processing, flow cytometry, and cell-based functional assays and ability to utilize such tools and approaches for mechanism-of-action studies
  • Experience in immune cell biology relating to human autoimmune disease and/or cancer.
  • Significant experience in engineered cell therapy platforms including, but not exclusive to Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cell therapies.
  • Demonstrated scientific leadership and research project management experience in the full spectrum of research activities as evident by peer-reviewed publication, competitive funding and research outreach;
  • Experience in leading a multidiscipline team or collaborative project, business development, marketing activities, and/or the development of partnerships and collaborations will be an asset.

Technical Competencies

 

  • Superior knowledge of T cell Immunology, with emphasis on tolerance and T cell differentiation.
  • Advanced knowledge of modern techniques for monitoring inflammatory responses, immunogenicity, and biomarkers.
  • Knowledge of different pproaches to studying cellular signalling pathways and metabolism.
  • Knowledge of immunotherapies to combat chronic infection, autoimmune disease & cancer
  • Knowledge of genome editing approaches to modify safety, transplantation, persistence, efficacy of immune cell therapeutic products

Salary Range

 

 

This position is classified as a Research Council Officer (RCO), a group that is unique to the NRC. The RCO group uses a person-based classification system instead of the more common duties-based classification system. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, skill, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $55,541 to $157,009 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions.
