Your Challenge

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada's largest research and technology organization.

We are looking for a Research Officer to support our Digital Technologies research centre (DT). The Research Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Digital Technologies Research Centre collects multiple research teams who focus on machine learning, advanced analytics, computer vision, bioinformatics, cryptography, cyber security, natural language processing, quantum computing and other branches of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. 

The primary responsibility of the researcher in this position is to support the goals of NRC and the activities of the Digital Technologies Research Centre in conducting research of international calibre in applied quantum computing, including quantum algorithms and software, quantum error correction, theoretical models of quantum computing and other related areas.  The researcher will work in a team environment with other researchers and technical experts in world-class facilities. The researcher will participate in the development and execution of an original research agenda in collaboration with NRC colleagues and with academic and commercial partners across Canada.  The researcher will be called upon to contribute to collaborative research projects in support of NRC’s Applied Quantum Computing challenge program.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or other related field.

Experience

  • Significant experience in conducting research or technical activities dealing with quantum computing theory, applications, algorithms or error correction.
  • Significant experience writing publications, in a recognized national and international journals, books and reports and presenting at conferences.

Technical Competencies

  • Ability to analyse and experimentally evaluate algorithms.
  • Knowledge of theory of computation and computational complexity.
  • Extensive knowledge of the theory of quantum computing and quantum algorithms.
  • Knowledge of quantum error correction.

Compensation

The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the AsRO or AcRO level, which is a mid-career level position with a salary range of $80,523 to $133,853.  

NOTE: Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level.  As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for this position).
