The Role
We are seeking a Machinist-Millwright to support our Real Property Planning and Management (RPPM) Branch. The ideal candidate would share our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect, and Creativity.
The Millwright/Machinist must be very self-driven and comfortable working alone. You will be required to operate all shop equipment and tools related to the Millwright/ Machinist trade. Under the general supervision of the Site Operations Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, calibrating and repairing a wide range of pumps, air handlers, exhaust fans heating and cooling systems, including specialized laboratory equipment. You must maintain all equipment to the required standards and be responsive to research needs and equipment failures. You will work as part of a team to support other trades on-site. Still, you will routinely perform work independently and maintain high accuracy and safety while performing your duties.
The Millwright/ Machinist plays a crucial role in supporting the Research groups. He or she will work closely with each group to support maintenance/repairs and set-up of equipment to ensure operational efficiency. Maintenance activities are carried out as part of a regular preventative maintenance program as well as in response to emergency situations and malfunctions.

Education
Secondary School Diploma according to provincial standards.
Licensed Millwright 433A or an equivalent inter-provincial Red Seal Journeymen’s Certificate Qualification
The following certifications or training might be considered as an asset:

Experience
- Significant knowledge of procedures, techniques and standards, materials used in the Machinist/Millwright trade.
- Basic ability to read mechanical schematics/blueprints and interpret manufacturer’s specifications
- Basic knowledge of Building Automation systems and equipment
- Ability to perform rigging to lift, move, pull, push or lower equipment to be installed or removed
- Significant working knowledge of specialized tools of the Machinist/Millwright trade
- Basic knowledge of the techniques of welding, brazing, cutting with oxygen acetylene torches to fabricate various kinds of jigs, fixtures, railings, guards or repair castings.
The following might be considered as an asset:
- Good working knowledge of other related trades (electrical, plumbing, steam, and HVAC).

Reliability Status
Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to working in awkward positions; bending and stretching; moving lightweight objects and large, awkward and heavier objects on occasion; operating hand and power tools and equipment; climbing stairs and ladders on occasion.
Work is typically within a shop, laboratory, mechanical room, roof environment which can include daily exposure to background noise from tools and equipment, and regular exposure to dirt, noise, hazardous equipment and substances, extreme temperatures or other awkward conditions. When performing on-site repairs or maintenance, the work is often in a research facility. Work can be performed indoors and outdoors with occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions, and working on uneven terrain and from heights.
Use and maintain the safety materials, equipment, tools, devices and clothing provided and intended for their protection observing all safety instructions, directives, standards, programs and, safe work procedures relative to the safe conduct of their work as well as participate in safety training.

Technical Competencies
- Solid working knowledge of repairing and maintaining hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical machinery and equipment (including, but not limited to: pumps, compressors, fans, ventilation system components, electric motors, CNC machines, diesel engines, cranes, etc.)
- Solid knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Solid understanding of tools, equipment, principles, materials, and terminology associated with the Millwright/ Machinist trade.
- Solid knowledge in the current versions of all applicable legislation, building regulations, codes and standards.
- Solid knowledge of reviewing blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances for finished work pieces and machining set-up requirements.
- Solid ability to identify options, develop solutions, and take action when responding to customer requests.

Compensation
Salary under review
From $68,640 to $74,863 per annum.
