The NRC is seeking a research executive to fulfil the role of Executive Director, Digital Technologies who will lead the Digital Technologies Research Centre.

Executive Director, Digital Technologies

Digital technology is the vanguard of innovation and the driver of real-world transformation that impacts society in incredible ways.  It is a force for good. The National Research Council of Canada’s Digital Technologies Research Centre’s objective is to make everyday life smarter and more intuitive for Canadians and Canadian businesses by exploring uses of data and information in innovative and meaningful ways to solve real problems. Its focus is advanced analytics, computer vision, natural language processing, artificial intelligence technologies, quantum algorithms and cybersecurity.

Reporting to the Chief Digital Research Officer, the Executive Director, Digital Technologies will lead the multi-disciplinary research teams within the Digital Technologies Research Centre. In this role, you will work alongside your Director General peer group, and provide research leadership internally with your team and with external partners. 

The impact of the Research Centre’s activities is to advance knowledge, inform public policy, and generate economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits to Canadians. As the Executive Director, you will maintain and strengthen relationships with senior officials of universities, industry, government, and other research organizations across Canada and abroad. Your attuned sense of these dynamic requirements will enable further growth of the Research Centre’s programs.   

As a well-qualified candidate, you are known for your abilities to inspire research teams and collaborate within a multi-stakeholder environment in achieving outcomes.  You bring significant experience in developing, maintaining and leveraging strategic partnerships, research alliances and client relationships with partners across all sectors. An outstanding communicator and trusted ally, your innovative approach in leading high performing teams in complex organizations will be valued in taking on this exciting challenge. It is preferred, but not required, that you possess a Masters or PhD in a relevant field and have the ability to communicate in both official languages.
