The role

We are looking for an Electrician to support our Real Property Planning and Management Branch. The incumbent would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

Under the general supervision of the Site Operations Supervisor, the Electrician is responsible for maintaining, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, calibrating and repairing a wide range of Electrical systems and equipment, including specialized laboratory equipment and hydraulic/pneumatic systems. You will be required to install and maintain all equipment to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) standards and be responsive to research needs and equipment failures. You will work as part of a team to support other trades on site but would routinely perform work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy and safety, while performing your duties.

The Electrician will also be required to operate all shop equipment and tools necessary for the repair and installation of all Electrical systems and their components, as well as facility projects. He or she will work closely with each Research group to support maintenance/repairs and set-up of equipment to ensure operational efficiency.

Screening criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Secondary School Diploma according to provincial standards.

A valid Ontario certificate of qualifications as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician (309A) or an equivalent inter-provincial Journeymen’s Certificate of Qualification.

Experience

  • Significant* and recent** experience servicing, repairing and maintaining a variety of electrical and building equipment as well as building systems and controls in industrial facilities.
  • Significant* and recent** experience in preventive/corrective maintenance, dismantling equipment, and troubleshooting HVAC equipment, generators and pumps.
  • Recent** experience monitoring and maintaining a building automation system (BAS) and Fire Alarm system.
  • Recent** experience with card access and Direct Digital Control (DDC) control components.

 

* Significant experience is defined as two (2) to six (6) years of experience.
** Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last two (2) years.

Condition of employment

  • Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs & ladders, ability to hear to diagnose mechanical troubles, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence or a valid Quebec Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Reliability Status.

For a Reliability Status, verification of background information over a period of 5 years is required.

  • Solid knowledge of building management DDC systems and preventative maintenance systems.
  • Solid ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, manuals and manufacturers specifications.
  • Solid ability to install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment in industrial buildings.
  • Solid knowledge of the National Building Code, the Canada Labor Code Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Safe Work Practices, WHMIS and regulations governing the handling of hazardous materials.

Compensation

From $78,672 to $84,985 per annum.
