The NRC is seeking two research executives to join the ranks of its senior management team. Reporting to a Vice President, these Director Generals will be leaders of highly skilled researchers and technical staff, organized in multidisciplinary teams, and supported by large-scale facilities and leading-edge equipment. They will be responsible for the management of the human resources, the facilities, the research and business activities and the stakeholder engagement as the head of two of NRC’s Research Centres.

Director General, Energy, Mining and Environment

The NRC is seeking a research and innovation leader to fulfil the role of Director General to lead the Energy, Mining and Environment Research Centre and join the ranks of its senior management team.
 

Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering, the Director General (DG) will lead highly skilled multi-disciplinary research teams with expertise in the energy, mining or environment sectors. As the head of the Research Centre, you will lead the research strategy, partnership development, stakeholder engagement, and day-to-day operations.
 

As DG, you will continuously evaluate stakeholders needs by maintaining and further strengthening relationships with senior officials of industry, government, universities, and other research organizations. Your attuned sense of these dynamic requirements will enable the alignment of the Research Centre’s activities to be at the forefront in addressing resource sector challenges. Your vision will be instrumental in advancing Canada’s climate plan.
 

As a well-qualified candidate for this position, you are known for your research leadership along with your ability to inspire research teams and collaborate within a multi-stakeholder environment in achieving outcomes. You bring significant experience in developing, maintaining, and leveraging strategic partnerships, research alliances and client relationships with partners. An outstanding communicator and trusted ally, your innovative approach in leading high performing teams in complex organizations will be valued in taking on this exciting challenge. A postgraduate university degree in a relevant field, and proficiency in both official languages are preferred.

Director General, Metrology Research Centre:

This team is committed to fostering innovation through high-precision measurement science and advancements in metrology. It is the federal agency responsible for official time. Clients and partners rely on the Centre for accurate, traceable measurements that define the national standard and are in line with international requirements. Staff, which includes Canada’s Chief Metrologist, offer unparalleled metrology knowledge and expertise.

As a well-qualified candidate for either position, you are known for your research leadership in one or more of the centre’s disciplines. You are skilled in inspiring research teams and collaborating with stakeholders across the innovation landscape environment in achieving outcomes. You bring significant experience in developing, maintaining and leveraging strategic partnerships, research collaborations and client relationships with research partners including academia, technology organizations, private sector firms, and government departments/agencies. You are experienced in developing and leading research agendas designed to keep groups are the forefront of scientific, engineering and/or technical fields. An outstanding communicator and relationship builder, you easily navigate large, complex organizations and are skilled in developing high-performing teams that pivot to seize emerging opportunities and adapt to change. As an ideal candidate, you possess a Masters or PhD in a relevant field and an ability to communicate in both official languages. If you have the desired profile and are retained as a successful candidate but haven’t yet had an opportunity to learn a second language, we are open to providing you with dedicated training at the onset of your appointment.
