We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Collection Assistant to support the National Science Library within our Knowledge, Information and Technology Services Branch. The Collection Assistant would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
 

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Collection Management Services, the Collection Assistant is responsible for the following:

 

  • Troubleshooting access issues to subscribed electronic resources
  • Managing library holdings in various e-resource systems
  • Monitoring the general Collections inbox
  • Managing client requests in Assyst (web-based ticketing system)
  • Compiling and updating lists and files using various software applications
  • Assisting Collections staff with subscription renewals and e-resource usage statistics
  • Digitizing print licenses
  • Sorting and distributing Collections print mail
  • Performing other related duties as required

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards.

A Library Technician Diploma would be an asset.

Experience

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience searching online databases.
  • Experience responding to client inquiries.

 

The following would be considered assets:
 

  • Experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS) other web-based library tools.
  • Experience working with bibliographic information or metadata.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of an Integrated Library System (ILS) or other web-based library tools.
  • Knowledge of bibliographic information or metadata.

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Salary Range

From $40,550 to $53,765 per annum.

  • A pre-qualified list may be established for similar positions for a one year period.
