We are looking for a Technical Officer in Genomic to support our Human Health Therapeutics (HHT) research centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

 

The Applied Genomics Team is considering a strategic expansion to high throughput screening and single-cell sequencing techniques to support HHT’s cell therapy initiatives. The incumbent will play a key role in large-scale projects to identify therapeutic targets through the use of advanced technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 screening and single-cell sequencing. The Technical Officer will actively contribute to the design, laboratory implementation and bioinformatic analysis of CRISPR/Cas9 screening.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other discipline related to the position. 

 

Master’s degree in these disciplines would be considered an asset.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in cell culture, transfection, stable mammalian cell line development and characterization of cell lines: (Expanding, titration, banking, confirming loss of function or gain of function gene mutations by sequencing, qPCR, immunoblotting, and / or functional assays, microscopy)
  • Significative experience in molecular biology (cloning, RNA, DNA, gDNA, Q-PCR…)
  • Significative experience in the characterization of model cell lines for screening, target validation and mechanistic studies;
  • Significative experience in flow cytometry and fluorescence assisted cell sorting (FACS);
  • Experience with gene editing technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 to generate gene deletions, point mutations, etc.;
  • Experience in the use of bioinformatics and statistical tools for next-generation sequencing data analysis

  • Knowledge of mammalian cell culture, viral production and functional characterization of stable lines.
  • Knowledge of CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing approaches and related experimental designs.
  • Ability to write reports and draft protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of next-generation sequencing principles and data analysis.
  • General knowledge of related industry trends, developments and best practices.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety best practices required to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Salary Range

From $72,654 to $93,437 per annum. 

 

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
