Your Challenge

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada's largest research and technology organization.

We are looking for a Research associate, Microbial Fermentation to support our Human Health Therapeutics research center. The Research Associate (RA) would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The successful candidate will play an important role within the Microbial Fermentation Team. The team has a microbial gene expression platform that helps to support the fermentation specialists to biomanufacturer both vaccines and biotherapeutics in our Pilot plant facility. The molecular team develops specialized expression methodologies including both expression vectors and genetically modified hosts specific for the type of protein being expressed. Projects often involve various ‘-omic’ approaches and bioinformatics to enhance gene expression in standard hosts like E. coli and yeast, but also to develop new hosts like Lactococci to exploit their ability to secrete proteins. Furthermore, the molecular group develops/adapts homologous recombination techniques to modify various pathogens to enhance expression of key virulence factors utilized for vaccine production. Responsibilities will include the design, planning, conduct and analysis of complex experiments or tests for external and internal client projects. The Research Associate will also have to use her/his knowledge and experience to design, plan, execute and report new ideas in order to improve the molecular biology toolbox used for microbial biomanufacturing.
