Your Challenge

We are looking for three Microbiology Analysts, Quality Control (QC) to support our Biologics Manufacturing Centre. The seleted candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.


The new Biologics Manufacturing Centre (BMC), currently under construction by the NRC, will help to accelerate Canada’s capacity to produce, access and supply vaccines and other biologics. Certified as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliant, the facility will have full end-to-end production capability for mammalian cell-based biologics. This includes a production capacity of approximately 4000 litres per month, upstream and downstream processing, a fill and finish system, a quality control lab, secondary packaging, and related logistics management of final products. In the short-term, the BMC’s top priority and focus is to help secure the production of a COVID-19 vaccine for Canadians as quickly as possible, once one is approved by Health Canada. In the longer term, the BMC’s focus will be on providing innovative solutions for the domestic production and supply of novel biologics for the future, while providing Canada with access to a facility that is ready to respond to emergencies, such as a pandemic.


The candidate will contribute to implement the QC system (SOPS, forms, detailed work instructions) to support environmental validation and monitoring, control of raw material, packaging material and critical consumable.


Once the system will be set-up, the principal responsibilities will be the following:

  • Environmental monitoring sampling (air, water)
  • Finished product sampling and inspection
  • In-process and Finished Product Testing (bacterial endotoxin, Bioburden, Microbial identification)
  • Inventory management of QC consumables


The candidates will also be involved in:

  • OOS/OOT investigation
  • Support to production team
  • Improve the QC activities, when necessary
  • Maintenance and calibration of the QC equipment

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

College diploma (DEC) in science (microbiology or any scientific related fields).

Experience

  • Significant experience in the field of pharmaceuticals in a QC laboratory;
  • Experience in air sampling, water sampling in a GMP environment.


Assets

  • Experience in writing analytical methods related to microbiological testing and based on compendial tests.
  • Experience in the  the analysis of in-process and finished product and raw materials (bioburden bymembrane filtration, LAL turbidimetric/chromogenic, etc.)
  • Experience in sterile manufacturing.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of quality control in a GMP microbiological laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of environmental monitoring analysis (water, air).
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Technical knowledge of working under aseptic conditions (an asset).

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Salary Range

From $49,298 to $69,364 per annum. 

 

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.

  • Willingness to occasionnally work on weekend and/or on statutory holiday.
  • A flexible schedule and overtime may be required.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • A pre-qualified list may be established for similar positions for a one year period.
