We are looking for a Maintenance Technician to support our Real Property Planning and Management Branch. The Maintenance Technician would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Site Operations Supervisor with maintenance of the Edmonton Research Centre, the Nanotechnology Research Centre.


This position will appeal to someone who enjoys working in a team environment with constantly changing priorities and new challenges daily. This position will be ideal for a self-starter who can also work alone. The successful incumbent should be someone who is open to learning and can provide their own input and ideas to benefit the workplace.

 

The successful candidate will perform or support regularly scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, and break in daily work orders on equipment such as various types of pumps, fan coil units, air handling units, exhaust fans, closed loop filtration systems, building automation system, the security system and general base building systems (architectural and  mechanical) etc. They will coordinate the activities of maintenance contractors.

 

Other duties include; performing routine tasks to maintain the physical plant and keeping the site looking well kept, presentable and safe. He/she will have good communication skills in order to work from manuals, drawings, sketches and verbal instructions. In addition, the incumbent will also undertake other related duties as needed, such as but not limited to: set ups and tear downs for events, assisting with shipping and receiving duties, grounds keeping, snow clearing, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and other associated duties of teammates while providing vacation relief.

 

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

High school diploma, according to provincial standards.

A combination of education and experience might be considered.

 

ASSETS:

Maintenance or trade certification or training, including apprenticeship.

Building Operator certification.

Experience
  • Significant experience in an industrial or commercial maintenance environment.
  • Significant experience with maintaining and troubleshooting equipment such as: pumps, motors, fan coil units, air handling units, building automation system and security systems, mobile equipment or vehicles.
  • Significant experience with PPE, and workplace safety procedures. 
  • Basic experience with MS office such as Excel, Word, Outlook.

 

*Basic – a few months and up to 2 years
*Significant – 2 to 6 years

 

ASSETS:

  • Experience as a Building Operator in an industrial or commercial maintenance environment.

Reliability Status

 

Must possess and be able to retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs & ladders, ability to hear to diagnose mechanical troubles, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.

Relocation

Salary Range

From $51,633 to $55,240 per annum.
