We are looking for a Research Officer (RO) in Simulation and Numerical modeling to support the Automotive and Surface Transportation Research Center (AST).

 

The primary responsibility of the Research Officer is to support the goals of NRC and the Research Center through research of international caliber and the development and application of advanced technologies. Activities also include the development of proposals for new research initiatives, project management, and providing service to NRC clients.

 

Within the Simulation and Numerical Modeling team, the incumbent will join a group of experts working on the development and application of simulation software applied to manufacturing processes and process optimization. He/she will be asked to develop and implement solution algorithms for the numerical modeling of fluid flow, structural behavior or thermal management which should address the needs of clients and stakeholders from the automotive industry. The development of data analytics and artificial intelligence tools supporting advance manufacturing could also be sought. The research domains of interest for NRC include presently the advanced manufacturing, light weighting of ground transportation vehicles and vehicle propulsion technologies

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Ph.D. in engineering, physics, chemistry, informatics or mathematics.

 

Candidates with Masters in an engineering field pertinent to the position combined with practical experience in research by numerical modeling and simulation may be considered.

Experience

Significant and recent experience in computer assisted simulation of applications relevant to the position including development and implementation of numerical simulation algorithms.

Significant experience (2 to 6 years) in at least two of the following:

 

  • numerical simulation of fluid flow and heat transfer;
  • modeling structural behavior of materials, especially composites;
  • application of data analytics and artificial intelligence tools;
  • optimization applied to manufacturing processes or part design;
  • effective use of CAD/CAM software to create complex 3D finite element meshes.

 

Significant experience in programming for scientific applications as well as in the analysis and interpretation of numerical simulation results.

Experience in the complete range of research activities including identification of opportunities, writing of project proposals, generation and analysis of simulation results, as well as the presentation of research results in reports, presentations and publications.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies

  • Solid ability in the use of numerical simulation software applied to the solution of complex fluid flow, heat transfer or structural problems.
  • Solid knowledge of numerical methods (of preference by finite elements) for the numerical modeling and simulation.
  • Solid knowledge in scientific programming applied to simulation software development.
  • Basic ability in developing new business opportunities, in the redaction of project proposals and project reports.
  • Knowledge in data analytics and artificial intelligence will be an asset.

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Salary Range

 

This position is classified as a Research Officer (RO), a group that is unique to the NRC. The RO group uses a person-based classification system instead of the more common duties-based classification system. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, skill, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $52,854 to $149,416 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions. 

 

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
