The role

We are looking for a Business Service Officer (BSO) to support our Automotive and Surface Transportation (AST) Research Centre. The successful candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.


The Business Service Officer will be part of a team of professionals supporting the business development activities of the Automotive and Surface Transportation Research Centre. Working alongside Business Development Officers (BDO), the incumbent will focus on working low-risk while the BDOs develop more complex opportunities.  


Responsibilities include:

  • Working opportunities for client projects delegated by members of the Business Development team (BDO’s and the Director, Business Development), with an initial focus on manufacturing opportunities.
  • Working assigned opportunities by liaising directly with clients and connecting clients to the appropriate researcher(s) to develop statements of work. This includes identifying the appropriate researcher, reviewing proposals and ensuring they meet client needs, reviewing project costing, determining price and negotiating price and other contract terms with the client.
  • Working with contract specialists to prepare contracts based on standard agreement templates.
  • Updating their opportunities in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Supporting the Director of Business Development with reporting (e.g., bi-weekly updates to Management Team as well as monthly reports to Vice-President on new opportunities and bookings).
  • Maintaining and updating the research centre’s Funnel and Bookings Dashboard in Power BI and running ad-hoc reports in the CRM.
  • Providing other support such as collateral development and conference preparation.  

 

It is expected that the BSO leverage the NRC’s Business Development Community of Practice to regularly benchmark and remain current on best practices, policies, and guidelines related to business development and client services, as well as make use of training and business development opportunities.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Business Administration or a field relevant to the position.

An equivalent combination of work-related experience, formal training and education would also be considered.

Experience

  • Significant experience in sales, client service, or customer support in a technology environment.
  • Significant experience drafting business proposals.
  • Significant experience reviewing contracts.
  • Experience establishing collaborative working relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Experience working with a Customer Relationship Management System (CRM).

 

* Significant experience is defined as a minimum of four (4) years of experience.

Compensation

From $78,167 to $91,895 per annum. 

In addition, the incumbent who meets the language requirements will  receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
